Tasting Notes

The Green Family Winery is dedicated to fine wines from Syrah and Barbera grapes, grown in the local Sierra Foothill region. Traditional methods are used in the winery and sustainable agriculture is practiced in the vineyard. Our wines are neither fined, filtered, or fiddled with. We want the wine to show its true character and intensity.

Barbera - 2009

$21.00 /
bottle
Grown and made in the true Italian style. Deep crimson color. Very low tannins. Very fruity, spicy bouquet and a crisp, tart finish. This is a great wine for Italian food and lighter meat dishes, chicken, pork chops, veal in caper and wine sauce.

Syrah - 2008

$23.00 /
bottle
This is the wine for steak and roast beef. Syrah is a grape that loves the Sierra Foothills. The climate here is much like the Northern Rhone valley in the south of France. The wine is dark, rich and elegant. Scents of spices, jasmine and cedar. Smooth tannins and a long tasty finish. Enjoy!

Old Curmudgeon - 2005

$18.00 /
375 ml. bottle
This is a Port for those who don't usually like Port. Made from Syrah, the fruit is picked at perfect ripeness, not over ripe! So I avoid those prune and raisin flavors! Finished to 18% alcohol but only 4.5% sugar. Most Port has 8 to 9% sugar. So it is not syrupy sweet, just nice. The laws do not let me label this as Port so technically it is called a "Red Dessert Wine", but it is most similar to Vintage Port. Enjoy!
