Specializing
in Syrah and Barbera wines that we call "sophisticated",
the Green Family Winery motto is "If it ain't red, it ain't
wine." Our small winery only churns out about 600 cases
- 7,200 bottles - each year.

JULY 2005
Jul
7 : note
for the public; Just returned from my 50th high school
reunion in Midland, PA. What a hoot! I recognized no one. This
was the first time that I have seen most of these people in
50 years. Out of a class of 150, 54 turned up for the dinner,
38 have passed on and the rest just couldn't make it. Or couldn't
care less. Still it was a good time and the 4th of July thrown
in for a bonus.
While there I visited a few restaurants and had a look at the
wine lists. Depressing!! Mostly house brands from Gallo &/or
Bronco wines. However they have a real appreciation of fine
beer, so that is what I stuck to. My advice; when east of the
mississippi, drink beer. By the way, the food was great! Lots
of ethnic grub that you just don't find here. Midland is west
of Pittsburgh in the Ohio Valley, steel towns. Lots of names
that end in vich or ski. So there are lots of eastern European
restaurants. Tasty stuff! Hey, lets not forget the Italians.
Had the best Lasagna that I have had in ages from a little takeout
place. Pizza is just everywhere.
Also noticed that the people in general were more down to earth
and rugged than in California. Less Yuppie minded you might
say. Very few BMW's on the streets.
